The Ark, Baptism and the Communion Cup

Thoughts as we approach Easter

"and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed."
1 Peter 2:24

in other words:
Christ submitted to the waters of God's judgment so we might be washed by his blood

In the story of Noah's Ark, we see the ark as a type of Christ, Noah's family as a type of believers and the flood waters as a type of God's curse because of sin. These truths are also seen in believer's baptism and the communion cup of the Lord's supper, as expressed in the following poem below where the first two lines relate to baptism---the last two lines, to the communion cup.

.

Dead we are as one with the Ark
Immersed in the cursed flood
But safe we dwell inside the Ark
Under the peace of His blood

His mercy endureth forever

O give thanks unto the LORD for he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever...

To him that made great lights:

The sun to rule by day

The moon and stars to rule by night

for his mercy endureth for ever.
Psalm 136

blessed are the merciful

Matthew 5:7

"Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy."

How do you interpret this verse in light of understanding the Gospel?

I feel like it's backwards and should say, "Because God has shown us mercy in Christ, blessed are we when we're merciful to one another"...

We're discussing this in our small group, what do you think?
